Tetsuo Hayashi
Tetsuo Hayashi
Born in Kagawa Prefecture.
Graduated from the Department of Oil Painting, Faculty of Art and Design, Musashino Art University.
Stayed in various parts of Europe from 1979 to 1980. After returning to Japan, he lived in Kyoto and Kobe, but returned to Kyoto in 1995 after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
In 1999, his love of second-hand books led him to launch the book magazine "Sumus." His works primarily attempt to reevaluate forgotten publishers.
In 2002, he won the Ozaki Hideki Memorial Popular Literature Research Award for "The Age of Coffee Shops," which surveyed the history of coffee shops.
In 2012, he won the Takeo Award (design book category) for "100 Kansai Publishers Tracing Their Book Images."
