Takashi Kitami Exhibition: "The Bluebird's Song"

2025/3/22-4/13

Takashi Kitami is widely known for his fantastical and mysterious worlds depicted through a variety of techniques, and for his illustrations for books across a wide range of genres.

This exhibition will feature approximately 30 works (paintings, prints, and sculptures) filled with wondrous stories set in fictional worlds, primarily focusing on works based on Maurice Maeterlinck's "The Blue Bird."

Lately, I've often been drawing pictures based on fairy tales such as "Alice in Wonderland" and "Little Red Riding Hood." I feel like I've been reflecting my own state of mind through the characters of these fairy tales. This "Blue Bird" is a motif that has appeared in my work before. The theme of this fairy tale by Maeterlinck is likely "What is happiness?" The reality is that there are many people in the world who, even if they want to pursue happiness, simply don't have the means to do so. If my paintings can bring even a fleeting moment of comfort or encouragement to those who see them, that would be the greatest happiness for me as an artist. (Takashi Kitami)
